State Street (US-89) widening

UDOT is widening State Street to a seven-lane section (three lanes each direction) to match the existing sections on either end. The work upgrades signals at 500 East, 700 East, North County Boulevard, 1300 West and Pleasant Grove Boulevard and adds south-side curb, gutter and sidewalk, new storm drain and new or upgraded pedestrian ramps. Phase 1 widened the State Street intersections at 500 East and at Pleasant Grove Boulevard and the 1650 West-1300 West stretch in 2025, plus a new pavement layer between intersections. Phase 2 is in design through 2026, with construction anticipated in 2027 (dates to be determined); 1300 West will be widened in Phase 2.

UDOT update on State Street (US-89) widening

    Discussed

UDOT project manager Eric Mason said the 2.25-mile widening from 200 South in Pleasant Grove to 500 East in American Fork will add three through lanes each way, a median, buffered bike lanes and rebuilt intersections at 500 East, 700 East and North County Boulevard; a new signal at 860 East was split off as a separate project to start within a month and finish by spring. High right-of-way costs used up the original funding; acquisition should finish within months and construction is planned for spring 2024, possibly 2023. Council members asked about the Rail Line Trail, 700 East grade changes and the speed limit, which will stay the same.

    • Length: 2.25 miles
    • New signal at 860 East to be installed separately, winter 2020-21
    • Construction: spring 2024 (possibly 2023)
