    Regional transportation issues

    Discussed

UDOT's Eric Rasband said a freeway connection would pull traffic off 2100 North and that a collector-distributor system adding three to four lanes on I-15 at the Point of the Mountain would be needed; he described it as an unfunded Mountainland Association of Governments vision project. Josh Gibbons of Hales Engineering said build-out population is about 670,000 across participating cities and named the Point of the Mountain and the North Lake area, with three potential freeway alignments, as focus areas. He cited American Fork Main Street at 35,000 to 40,000 vehicles a day, Pony Express Parkway and Ranches Parkway as congested. Several attendees said a support-or-opposition chart was premature because councils had not reviewed the data, and members raised data accuracy and water rights. Lehi officials said Lehi has paid for most of the work and costs should be shared, and a Lehi representative put right-of-way purchases for Pony Express at $6 million, with construction hoped for 2027-2028. Council Member Rich Wood said short-term needs cannot wait. The next meeting was set for April 29, 2025, in Eagle Mountain.
