FrontRunner 2X project presentation
Discussed
UTA, UDOT and HDR representatives described a roughly $3 billion project to double FrontRunner frequency to 15-minute peak and 30-minute off-peak service by adding double track, funded by state contributions and a federal Core Capacity grant. In Orem and Vineyard, a 1.7-mile segment near the Geneva Road bridge requires shifting tracks east and 'sliver' acquisitions of about 8 to 10 feet from seven residential lots north of 800 South. The project will use special track components and ballast mats rather than sound walls. Final design and train procurement are under way, with construction slated for 2027 and service by 2030.

UTA briefing: governance, FrontRunner 2X and ridership
Discussed
UTA Executive Director Jay Fox said a part-time seven-member Transit Commission replaces three full-time trustees July 1 under Senate Bill 197. UTA is seeking federal grants to expand double-tracking on FrontRunner to 50%, enabling 15-minute peak service, at about $3 billion with a requested 74% federal share, and hopes to finish by 2030 ahead of the 2034 Olympics. UVX carries 2 million trips a year, Route 850 nearly 700,000 and Orem Central Station nearly 300,000 boardings. UTA also described its on-demand microtransit service.
