AT&T 100-foot monolithic cell tower, Cedar Valley High School
Approved with conditions · 3-2
The tower, at 1389 E. Aviator Avenue (Utah County parcel 59:033:0038), would replace a stadium light pole at the school. The required setback is four times the tower height, or 400 feet; staff said the tower is over 400 feet from the school but under 400 feet from potential lots to the east. Council Members Curtis and Donna Burnham raised health and safety concerns, especially electromagnetic emissions near students; members asked whether the applicant followed the standard of using city property first, and the applicant said no city locations meet coverage needs. Wright asked for masonry screening. Planning Manager Robert Hobbs presented; the Planning Commission recommended five exemptions. The council approved with conditions: a 100-foot tower at the specified location, an equipment enclosure south of the tower abutting a parking lot, 8-foot chain link fencing, a lightning rod and an emergency backup generator. Curtis and Wright voted no.
