Street cross-sections, bike lanes and trails (300 North)

    Discussed

Public Works Director Sam Kelly and City Engineer Ben Hunter asked for direction on how to fit the Bicycle Master Plan's 300 North commuter route into 40- to 44-foot residential streets as the Capital Improvement Plan is drafted. Options included buffered bike lanes (eliminating parking), a 100 West-style layout with parking on one side, or a shared-use path behind the curb replacing park strips. Councilmember Taylor said removing parking on 300 North was not realistic; members generally favored a 10- to 12-foot shared-use path on the north side from about 400 East to 700 East that preserves on-street parking, and asked staff to keep evaluating 100 North, Center Street and Fleming Drive. Staff said 300 North reconstruction would follow the 100 West project.

    • MAG-funded paths would need to be about 10-12 feet wide
