Council awards $1.37 million Orchard Drive/400 East waterline contract; mayor breaks tie on 620 South bike lane design

August 9, 2022, 7:00 p.m. · American Fork City Hall, 31 N. Church St.

The American Fork City Council awarded K.W. Robinson Construction a $1,370,626.65 contract for the federally funded CDBG Phase 9 road and culinary water improvements on Orchard Drive and 400 East. Mayor Bradley Frost broke a 2-2 tie to adopt a 620 South/700 South cross section with a raised, protected bike path that eliminates on-street parking in front of resident Carolyn Lloyd's home; Councilmembers Kevin Barnes and Clark Taylor voted no. The council also approved wider fire-access alleys in three Lakeshore Landing plats and released a $939,423 guarantee for Hansen Ranch Phase 4.

What residents said

Loss of on-street parking on 620 SouthBike lane design

Carolyn Lloyd asked to keep on-street parking in front of her home on the 620 South/700 South corridor and corrected the Planning Commission minutes to say she wanted the bike lane on the north side. Planning Commissioner Christine Anderson said consistency along the road mattered more and residents aren't guaranteed on-street parking.
