Utah lawn calendar, month by month

When to water, feed, aerate, seed and treat weeds, using the USU Extension calendars for northern Utah and St. George.

Which calendar to follow

USU Extension publishes four turf calendars. The northern Utah calendar applies to Box Elder, Cache, Daggett, Davis, Duchesne, Juab, Morgan, Rich, Salt Lake, Summit, Tooele, Wasatch, Weber and Utah counties.[1] The southwest calendar covers Beaver, Iron, Millard and Piute counties and parts of Sanpete, Sevier, Garfield and Kane.[2] The southeast calendar covers Carbon, Emery, Grand, Wayne and San Juan counties and parts of Sanpete, Sevier and Garfield.[3] St. George has its own.[4]

All of them are general guidelines based on average weather, and USU says to shift the timing in a hot, cold, wet or dry stretch.[1] Open the southwest or southeast calendar for the exact month-by-month grid for those counties.

Water only if the lawn needs it. USU's intervals start with every six days at startup, tighten to every two days in July, and loosen again to every ten days in October.[1] Check sprinklers monthly for leaks and clogged heads.[1] The irrigation season runs April through October in northern Utah.[5]

St. George runs a longer season: watering starts in February and shutdown comes after November 1. USU's general fall note puts the southern Utah irrigation season at March through November.[5]
