Modeled AQI is the U.S. EPA air quality index for the 6 p.m. model hour, computed by Open-Meteo from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) global forecast for each town's map point. It is not measured by a monitor. The model's grid is about 45 kilometers (28 miles) wide, so it can miss conditions in a single valley or canyon, and like the EPA index it uses rolling averages (24 hours for fine particles), so it is not a snapshot of one hour. The Salt Lake County air reading on our homepage and on Utah by the numbers is different: The Utah Ledger's calculation from Utah Division of Air Quality hourly readings, averaged over 24 hours for fine particles and eight hours for ozone. Different places, hours and methods mean the two can disagree. For official readings and burn days, see Utah's Division of Air Quality.
