Alpine Aqueduct reroute

The district plans to reroute the Alpine Aqueduct around an ancient landslide and to cross a fault at a right angle, using a tunnel, a vertical shaft and seismic-resistant pipe. The pipeline supplies about 60% of Orem's drinking water. Construction was expected to begin in fall 2024 and take two seasons.

    Alpine Aqueduct reroute update

    Discussed

A project manager for the Central Utah Water Conservancy District said the aqueduct, which supplies about 60% of Orem's drinking water, crosses an ancient landslide and several fault lines. The district plans to reroute it with a tunnel and vertical shaft and seismic-resistant pipe made in Japan, over two construction seasons starting in the fall. Residential streets used as haul routes will be milled and overlaid afterward, the district will request a non-exclusive easement on 1060 North and 1360 East, and it will run a hotline and notify the council of neighborhood meetings. Design was 90% complete.
