Proposed local historic district, Adams to Jefferson avenues from 24th to 27th streets (work session)

    Discussed

Deputy Planning Manager Joe Simpson said Alan Toone petitioned to designate a larger area, and the Landmarks Commission rejected the petition with a recommendation of denial, citing limited time and resources, no owner approval gathered and limited staff capacity for the required studies. Mr. Toone said he had contacted only his own neighborhood and that seven parties own close to 40 buildings in the area; he cited preserving historic homes ahead of Utah hosting the Olympics. Members discussed protections in a district and whether the 60-day review period is adequate. Chair Richey said the council would take the petition under advisement.
