  1. October 26, 2021 · City Council

Auburn Meadows (PD-43) Area B: grocery store and concept plan, Geneva Road and 2000 South

Approved · 6-1 with the mayor

Planning Division Manager Jason Bench recapped the request to relocate units and build a grocery store, and said Area B would no longer allow housing. A developer representative said the project would add parking compared with now and cut parking problems, described enforcement programs, and said a temporary lot is in place until the property is built, with permanent stalls replacing it. Residents at the hearing said far more cars park on Geneva Road than the developer claims, that a grocery is not needed, or that it would add traffic; a resident of a nearby 55-and-older community said the developer and HOA would need to enforce occupancy strictly. The council voiced support for a grocery store in the area. Spencer voted no.

    • Housing removed as an option in Area B

Moved by Mayor Richard Brunst, seconded by Council Member Debby Lauret. Vote: 6-1 including Mayor Richard Brunst; among council members 5-1. Council Member David Spencer voted no.

  2. September 14, 2021 · City Council

Auburn Meadows (PD-43) Area B: grocery store and commercial uses, Geneva Road and 2000 South

Continued · 7-0 with the mayor

Bench said the original PD-43 plan reserved Area B for senior independent living; the developer now wants a grocery store and other commercial use there and to enlarge Area B by taking land from Area A. The amended concept shows a small grocery with commercial space fronting Geneva Road or a larger grocery with one pad, possibly a fast-food restaurant. The change would move 12 residential units and eliminate nine. A traffic study would be required. Residents who spoke at the hearing raised parking and traffic on Geneva Road, one reporting 51 cars parked along it that morning, and some said they received notices late or not at all. Council Member Brent Sumner said he wanted a market eventually but the council should wait until Geneva Road was more built out. Council Member David Spencer and Peterson asked for another neighborhood meeting, and Mayor Brunst said he was not comfortable proceeding with the existing parking problems. The council continued the item to Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.
