UTA outlines FrontRunner double-tracking through American Fork; code items pulled from joint session
January 20, 2026, 4:00 p.m. · City Administration Conference Room, 51 E. Main St.
A scheduled joint work session of the American Fork City Council and Planning Commission on the polycentric plan and code amendments became a single presentation on FrontRunner 2X after both planning items were pulled. UTA and UDOT officials said the roughly $3.2 billion project would double-track most of Utah County, including two segments in American Fork, with strip property purchases of about 15 to 20 feet, construction starting in 2027 and 15-minute peak service by 2030. The minutes list no planning commissioners present.

UTA project manager Janelle Robertson, deputy Matt Carter, consultant Terry Warner and outreach lead Muriel Xochimitl said UDOT manages the project with UTA. It adds 11 double-track segments, a Bluffdale station and 10 diesel multiple-unit trains (likely Stadler) to double service to every 15 minutes at peak. American Fork has two segments, including about 4.4 miles north of the station to Pioneer Crossing; acquisitions would be 15- to 20-foot strips with no full takings, plus work on American Fork River bridges and crossings such as Storrs Avenue, retaining walls by the Timpanogos Special Service District, and coordination with the planned 1100 South roundabout near Auto Mall Drive. Two homes near Storrs may get noise mitigation such as new windows. Mayor Frost urged moving the poorly located American Fork station and buying land for parking; City Administrator David Bunker said 200 South will be widened with a center cycle track and two lanes each side.
