Council annexes THN 2 land on 300 North over neighbors' privacy worries, rejects gym code change

August 27, 2024, 7:00 p.m. · American Fork City Hall, 31 N. Church St.

The council annexed 1.308 acres at about 1054 East 300 North into PO-1 office and R1-9,000 zoning after a neighbor said a two-story office building would overlook backyards and add traffic; members said traffic studies and new setback rules would address it at development. It denied a Rival Athletics request to allow gyms in the Planned Industrial zone, approved a $15,000-a-year cell tower lease with AT&T near the Meadows, and accepted $25,000 from Utah County for youth substance-abuse prevention.

Ann Maas and another resident raised privacy, lighting and traffic concerns about the THN 2 annexation on 300 North. Nick Merrill asked the city to stop cars parking in the new 200 South shoulder toward the FrontRunner station, which forces cyclists into traffic, and to repaint bike lanes on repaved 200 South per the bicycle master plan.
