Temporary land use regulation prohibiting ADUs in Planned Community zones (Ordinance 27-2023)

Assistant City Attorney Craig Chambers said the city is acting because of recent state legislation. City Engineer Lorin Powell cited safety concerns about added traffic in the Traverse Mountain canyons with limited ingress and egress, and said ADUs in Planned Community zones would overload the sewer system in some areas. Mayor Mark Johnson said sewer failure causes property damage and he hopes the Legislature amends the law that prompted the concern.
