Joint session reviews Station Area Plan; officials frustrated I-15 flyover over 700 West still unfunded

August 19, 2025, 4:00 p.m. · City Administration Conference Room, 51 E. Main St.

In a joint work session with the Planning Commission, consultant Chris Hupp of Psomas presented a revised Station Area Plan agreed with UTA and UDOT, keeping the current FrontRunner station as the default with alternative sites. Council members said the long-planned flyover connecting over 700 West and the rail tracks to the station remains unfunded and that American Fork has become a 'doormat' for regional traffic. Members also discussed accessory building rules and a proposed limit on pets per home.

    Station Area Plan

Discussed · FrontRunner station area; 700 West; 1020 West and Main

Hupp said there is no bus service to the station; UTA's proposed bus loop depends on an overpass discussed since about 2011 and in the 2014 plan. Councilmember Taylor said the flyover over 700 West and the tracks can't gain traction; City Administrator Bunker said UDOT is concerned about the 1020 West intersection near the interchange. Options I and II for alternative station sites remain in the plan.
