Fire Chief Nate Thompson said a 2026 state law requires cities to move to the 2024 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and the state's wildfire risk map; staff kept Logan's risk rating at 7, which affects little current development. Asked about insurance, he said he had not heard of premium increases or cancellations in Cache Valley.

Workshop: Wildland-Urban Interface code and map, Ordinance 26-18
Discussed
Fire Chief Nate Thompson presented adoption of the 2024 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and an updated map, required by 2026 state House Bill 41, to keep the city's coverage under the Utah Cooperative Wildfire System. He recommended keeping the current risk threshold of 7, which covers mostly undeveloped eastern land and a few structures; lowering it to 5 would reach many more homes, but only for new construction or major remodels with permits. The item was set for action Oct. 20.

Wildland Urban Interface Code, Ordinance 25-21 (public hearing)
Approved · 4-0
The council adopted the 2006 Utah Wildland-Urban Interface Code, required by House Bill 48 (2025). Fire Chief Nate Thompson said the state has not released its high-risk map, so the city's boundary is an estimate, no existing buildings are in the high-risk zone, and adoption keeps the city in the Cooperative Wildfire System. Gail Yost asked about a fire descending toward 100 East; Thompson said that area is low risk.
