Airport terminal expansion

Provo Airport's terminal expansion would add gates to a terminal that opened in 2022, financed by up to $20 million in transportation sales tax revenue bonds that the council approved with an Utah County interlocal agreement on Feb. 10, 2026. That approval is authority to borrow, not proof the bonds closed or the money was spent. On April 14, 2026 the airport director told the council the airport was at full five-gate capacity at peak times, that current work could bring it to eight gates, that a practical full buildout is around 12, and that the airport might still be about $10 million short of the full vision. Those later gate counts are goals described at one meeting, not approved or funded phases. The airport reports strong growth: the FAA's final calendar 2025 count shows 531,126 passenger boardings, up 16.67% from 455,219 in 2024. Opening dates for new gates and any customs service have not been published.
