The final-passage votes in the 2026 sessions that were decided by the fewest votes, with Doug Fiefia's vote. These are picked by the size of the margin in the official tally alone, not by topic or party.
Doug Fiefia earned marketing and business-administration degrees at Utah State University and an MBA at Rice University. His official House biography describes technology-sales leadership at companies including Workday and Google and ownership of SOJO Construction. He also founded Raise The Tide, a nonprofit organizing career and business-development events for underrepresented groups, and has served on Utah State University's foundation board.[1]
Public service and district
Fiefia began House service in January 2025 and represents District 48 in Salt Lake County, including Herriman and Riverton. His biography describes growing up in South Jordan as a first-generation American whose parents came from Tonga. It identifies Herriman as his home. Those community connections accompany continuing interests in business, career development and Utah State University, as well as his family's roots in the southwest Salt Lake Valley.[1]
Documented legislative work
The 2026 sponsor record lists Fiefia's HB408, Data Sharing Amendments, and HB108, Minors in State Custody Amendments, as signed by the governor. His artificial-intelligence proposals, including a separate transparency measure, ended as filed in the House. The contrast is useful: his technology background is reflected in his legislative subjects, but the sponsor record does not support treating all of his AI proposals as enacted policy.[2]
In the 2026 General Session, Doug Fiefia was chief sponsor of H.B. 206, Nicotine Product Advertising Amendments. It would have banned advertising of electronic cigarette and nicotine products in certain locations. It was introduced but did not advance, and the House filed it on March 6, 2026.[3]
In the 2026 General Session, Doug Fiefia was chief sponsor of H.B. 108, Minors in State Custody Amendments. It changes the share of a minor's federal benefits that the state may use while the minor is in state custody. The governor signed it on March 17, 2026.[4]
Committee and budget responsibilities
Fiefia serves on House Economic Development and Workforce Services and House Government Operations, with interim assignments in both areas. His budget work is on Social Services Appropriations. The portfolio combines employment and business questions with agency administration and human-service funding, extending beyond technology regulation to the organization and financing of public programs that affect families, workers and people receiving state services.[1]
