Maloy and Melling lay out priorities in House District 52 race

The Lehi Free Press reported that voters in House District 52 will weigh incumbent Rep. Cory Maloy and challenger Nicole Melling on Nov. 3. State candidate filings also list Charlie Tautuaa as a write-in candidate for the seat. The Lehi Free Press and the American Fork Citizen sent the same questionnaire, with the same character limits, to each candidate, and published their answers in their own words. ^[1] The Lieutenant Governor's general election certification lists Melling, a Democrat, and Maloy, a Republican, for House District 52, which covers part of Utah County. ^[2]

Melling said she decided to run because she wanted someone to stand up to national party pressure, and named affordability, accountability and transparency, and resources for teachers among her priorities. She described herself as a nurse and a mother and said she would hold regular open office hours. Maloy said his priorities include roads that keep pace with new neighborhoods, housing decided locally, fewer government barriers for businesses and support for healthcare workers. He described himself as a conservative Republican and said no bill he has sponsored has failed a floor vote in the House. ^[1]

The outlet said Utah County mailed a ballot to every active registered voter on Oct. 13. Completed ballots must reach the county elections office by 8 p.m. Nov. 3, and a postmark no longer counts. The county has 28 drop boxes open around the clock. Early in-person voting runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26-30 and Nov. 2 at the Health and Justice Building in Provo, and vote centers are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 23, and residents can still register and vote provisionally at a vote center on Election Day. Information is at vote.utahcounty.gov or 801-851-8683. ^[1]
