  2. December 9, 2025 · City Council

Public hearing: sale of certain city real property

    Discussed

Real Property Manager Dan Nelson presented four properties: the old Sandy City fire station at 9010 South 150 East, the Hale Centre Theatre and plaza at 9900 Monroe Street (two parcels), a parcel at 9392 South 500 West and a lot at 9326 S. Monroe Plaza Way. The minutes say five properties but list four. Hale Centre Theatre is buying the theatre and plaza; the city determined the plaza parcel is surplus and must vacate its public-use dedication, and the theatre is paying off its bond early. Brooke Christensen supported the deal as a public-private partnership; Steve Van Maren raised concern about the $2 million the city spent building the plaza. No council action was required.

They said the three-level, 44,000-square-foot Mountain America Arts and Education Beehive, connected to the theater, is expected to break ground this spring and finish in 2024. The council also had lease amendments, a trust deed and a right of first refusal agreement for the Beehive in its packet, which the minutes say were discussed under this item.
