  4. November 12, 2024 · City Council work session

Temporary closure of 1000 West between South Temple and about 15 South

    Discussed

The Council was briefed on an ordinance temporarily closing this segment of 1000 West, for up to two years under state law, so the city can fix the rail crossing. The Federal Railroad Administration suspended the Woods Cross Quiet Zone after finding the crossing's safety measures inadequate. Staff said a repair plan would go to the FRA in December 2024, that a waiver application had been filed to speed the process, and that crossings in North Salt Lake also need repairs. Mayor Mendenhall thanked the Council for the original quiet-zone plan.
