Bluff at a glance

San Juan County · Utah

Bluff lies between sandstone cliffs and the San Juan River along the Trail of the Ancients scenic route. Its landscape carries Ancestral Puebloan history and the continuing presence of Indigenous communities, alongside the story of the Mormon settlers who arrived during the Hole-in-the-Rock expedition in 1880.

Today the town is a base for southeastern Utah trips, with lodging, restaurants and cultural stops close to the river. The Bears Ears Education Center and Bluff Fort offer different ways into the area’s history. Municipal business belongs on the Town of Bluff government site; BluffUtah.org is a visitor resource rather than the town government website.
