Scientific training and youth work

LeAnn Wood earned a zoology degree at Brigham Young University, concentrating on teratology, the study of birth defects. Her public-service background also includes youth programming with the Boy Scouts of America. She worked as a camp program director and served on its national Cub Scout and advancement committees, bringing experience in organized youth activities alongside her education advocacy. [1]

Parent advocacy and election

Wood was elected to the Utah State Board of Education in 2022 and represents Davis County communities including North Salt Lake, Bountiful and Farmington. Her biography describes extensive parent volunteering and policy advocacy through Utah PTA, including service as education commissioner and advocacy vice president. She has also served as secretary of the Utah Public Education Coalition. [1]

Assessment and school-policy experience

Wood’s parent-representative assignments have included the Accountability Redesigned Advisory Committee, Assessment and Accountability Policy Advisory Committee and State Assessment Parent Review Committee. She also worked on the School Fees Task Force. These roles involved the systems used to assess learning, report school performance and address costs borne by students and families. [1]

Wood chairs the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind Committee. [2]

Classroom connection

Wood’s 2026 professional disclosure identifies substitute work for Davis School District. That record adds a direct school-employment connection to a biography otherwise centered on parent advocacy, PTA leadership and policy committees. It documents another way she participates in public education while serving on the statewide board. [3]

From the campaign website

The campaign website lists a BYU bachelor's degree in zoology (1993) and a Master of Public Administration from Southern Utah University (spring 2026) for LeAnn Wood, who joined the board in January 2023 and serves as its second vice chair for 2025-26. It describes 25 years of advocacy for students, including Utah PTA leadership from 2014 to 2023 as education commissioner and advocacy vice president, and service on many school community councils. [4]

The site lists the Martha Hughes Cannon Award (2025), the CEC Political Advocate Award (2025) and the Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award (2024). Its stated positions are local control, fully funded public education, the Utah Core Standards, charter schools as an option, and school community councils. [4]
