Teaching and counseling background

Rod Hall’s professional background combines education, counseling and youth ministry. His official biography reports a degree in education and ten years of teaching experience, followed by a long period working with young people as a pastor. He also holds a degree in counseling and temperament therapy. The biography connects that preparation to his work supporting the mental and spiritual well-being of community members. [1]

Election and community involvement

Hall was elected to the Utah State Board of Education in 2024. He represents parts of Roy, South Ogden, Syracuse, Clearfield and Layton. Outside education governance, his biography identifies service as a chaplain for the Salt Lake City Police Department and as an honorary wing commander associated with the 388th Fighter Wing. These roles add public-safety and military-community connections to his experience with students. [1]

Stated approach to education

Hall describes his board priorities as empowering parents, supporting teachers and creating a safe environment for academic achievement. His biography presents these aims through his experience as an educator, pastor and counselor. He brings those professional experiences to a state board constituency spanning several northern Wasatch Front communities. [1]

Hall chairs the Audit Committee and also serves on Law and Licensing. [2]

Recorded curriculum vote

At the February 6, 2025 meeting, Hall opposed approval of revised Family and Consumer Sciences Exploration course standards. The recorded vote was thirteen in favor and one opposed, with one member absent. The motion passed despite his recorded opposition. [3]
