Wasatch Range
Mount Olympus
The rock wall above the east Salt Lake Valley that names Mount Olympus Wilderness.
Mount Olympus rises steeply above the east side of the Salt Lake Valley. The Forest Service's Mill Creek Canyon map labels the summit at 9,026 feet.
Utah Geological Survey mapping records quartzite and related rocks around the peak, including the Tintic Quartzite and the Mutual and Big Cottonwood formations. The mountain gives its name to Mount Olympus Wilderness, designated in 1984 and managed by the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The wilderness covers more than this one peak, and bikes and motor vehicles are not allowed in it.
