Orem Utah Temple PD-50 zone at 1465 South Geneva Road

    Approved · 6-0 · 1465 South Geneva Road

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints asked the city to create the PD-50 zone, allowing only churches, synagogues and temples, and apply it to about 15.39 acres changed from OS5. Planning Division Manager Jason Bench said the temple would be about 70 feet tall to the main roof and 218 feet 6 inches to the top of the spire. Code requires one stall per four fixed seats; with 722 seats in the temple and 802 in the church building, 381 stalls are required and the plan shows 520, with room for 136 more. 1100 West would be extended south through the site, with any widening coordinated with UDOT. Church project manager Tom Heath said the church is still completing internal approvals, was aiming for groundbreaking in late summer or early fall, and could work within the proposed height with or without an Angel Moroni statue. The Planning Commission recommended approval. No public comments were submitted.
