Fencing code changes (eight-foot fences, spiked-tip fencing)
A proposal to allow eight-foot fences under certain conditions without director approval and to prohibit spiked-tip fencing at new developments to protect wildlife. On Jan. 19, 2021 the council voted 4-3 to direct staff to work with its sponsor on code changes and report back.

Council Member Kris Coleman-Nicholl proposed allowing eight-foot fences under certain conditions without the director's approval and prohibiting spiked-tip fencing at new developments to protect wildlife. Sandra Hawk asked whether an eight-foot fence would help deter deer incidents. Kathy Spuck said current processes were adequate and suggested more community education about spiked fencing. The council directed staff to work with Coleman-Nicholl on changes to the fencing code and report back. Council Members Marci Houseman, Cyndi Sharkey and Brooke Christensen voted no.
