  1. Item B1 · Zoning

Zoning map amendment at approximately 265 East 100 South

    Continued · 7-0 · Approximately 265 East 100 South

The council heard a request to rezone the property from MU-8 (Mixed-Use 8) to D-1 (Central Business District) to allow a mixed-use project with ground-floor retail and upper-floor residential. Speakers raised concerns about effects on the adjacent St. Mark's Cathedral and its services and rooftop solar panels, seismic impacts, underground spring water, parking, the scale of the proposed building (about 300 feet wide and 225 feet tall), and precedent for D-1 zoning. One speaker supported replacing the surface parking lot. A representative of the developer said progress was being made on neighbors' concerns. Council Members Eva Lopez Chavez and Alejandro Puy said more time was needed to see amendments and understand impacts on the cathedral. The hearing was continued to a future meeting.
