Brighton at a glance

Salt Lake County · Utah

Brighton is the mountain community in Big Cottonwood Canyon associated with Silver Lake, cabins and the Brighton and Solitude ski areas. The town’s history reaches back to William and Catherine Brighton’s nineteenth-century homestead and hotel, long before the present municipal government.

Brighton incorporated as a town on January 1, 2020, following a 2018 vote. Its official community history describes a canyon shaped by recreation, former timber and mining activity, and the Salt Lake Valley’s drinking-water watershed. The municipal website brings that wider community together through notices, newsletters, planning information and a calendar.
