Mount Ogden Golf Course trail
The mayor decided to keep a trail route around the golf course rather than through it, closing unofficial trails through the course, after a survey showing a roughly even split. Trail users objected at the Jan. 6, 2026 meeting. The decision is administrative, outside Council authority.

Residents protest closure of trail crossing at Mount Ogden Golf Course
Discussed
Dozens of people spoke, most against the city's recent closure of a trail crossing over the Mount Ogden Golf Course. They cited a petition they said had about 2,000 signatures and decades of use, and suggested alternatives or liability-waiver signs. Others, including golf course workers, supported the closure because golfers on the tee box are hard to see from the crossing. Mayor Nadolski said, after consulting internal and outside legal counsel, he believes closing the crossing was correct, that revenue did not drive the decision, and that it will stay closed until a safer alternative is found; he committed staff to a collaborative solution. Council Member Blair questioned whether the risk to trail users exceeds that to golfers, Vice Chair Hyer cited the speed of golf balls, and members broadly supported looking for a solution.

Mount Ogden Golf Course trail crossing closure
Discussed
Speakers again split on the closure. David Lewis, Caden Sparks and Steve Holland urged keeping it closed for safety; Wesley Cowdren said trail users accept the current crossing is unsafe and asked the city to find a route that avoids fairways. Mayor Nadolski said he is meeting stakeholders to explore safe crossings.

Administrative update: Taylor Canyon site, Mount Ogden Golf Course trail, Lester Park
Discussed
Mayor Benjamin Nadolski said talks with the Ogden School District on the Taylor Canyon Elementary site were productive and the city was in a 60-day statutory phase that might be extended; no appraisal had been ordered yet. He preferred open space, with the decision resting with the Council; Council Member Angela Choberka said she could support a mixed-use area and worried about large fields. On the golf course trail, the mayor said he would keep the original plan of the loop going around the course, citing safety, an evenly split survey, golf participation and vandalism during the closure, and golf finances. Council Member Kevin Lundell questioned the survey's wording and late responses; Council Member Ken Richey suggested off-hours access as a compromise. The city has $2 million set aside of a $4 million need for Lester Park, with work planned for spring.
