Salina at a glance Sevier County · Utah
Salina sits in the Sevier Valley, where towns line the Sevier River and irrigation turns an arid valley into farmland. The Utah state history office says the railroad reached Salina in 1891, and that during World War II the town held a prisoner-of-war camp whose German prisoners worked on local farms. Sevier County's economy still leans on livestock, dairy, field crops and turkeys, and the county is the state's top gypsum producer.
The city website is organized around residents: a library with print and digital lending, a senior center, the swimming pool, a zoning map, police, fire and justice court pages, and an online water-bill link. Its administration page lists the mayor and council. Ask city hall for the posted agenda before a meeting, and compare it with the minutes afterward to see what was decided.
Salina's best-known annual event is the Eyes to the Sky Balloon Festival, held in June. The 2026 edition ran June 19 to 21, with mass balloon launches at 6 a.m. at North Sevier Middle School, kite flying, concerts, a craft fair, food trucks and a balloon glow on Main Street at dusk. Admission to the grounds is free. The city's site also announces a July car show, a Cardboard Boat Regatta at Redmond Lake, an Independence Day celebration, a Halloween trunk-or-treat and a New Year's Eve benefit rodeo. The Utah State Historical Society adds that Sevier County covers 1,976 square miles, with the Pahvant Range and Tushars west of the valley.
