Background
Margaret Olson is the Summit County Attorney. She graduated from the University of Utah's S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1992, practiced privately for more than 20 years and served as an Assistant District Attorney for Salt Lake County. She has litigated a wide range of civil and criminal cases, and has handled criminal cases as a prosecutor, private lawyer and attorney for crime victims. She has argued before the Utah Supreme Court, the Utah Court of Appeals and the Idaho Supreme Court. The Summit County Council unanimously appointed her on May 31, 2017, and voters elected her in 2018 and 2022. The Summit County Attorney's Office, which Margaret Olson leads, prosecutes all felonies and most misdemeanors in the county outside Park City's municipal boundaries and advises the County Council, county departments and many special service districts. It also oversees the Summit County Children's Justice Center and a Victim Assistance Program. These describe the office's responsibilities, not cases Olson personally handled.
