In their own words: the Tribune questionnaire
On corruption, Smith points to two recent attorneys general facing corruption charges, the unelected MIDA board, weaker public records laws and court restructuring. He says he would repeal secrecy laws, restore independent records oversight and end conflicts of interest on unelected boards. [1]
On affordability he blames the war in Iran and global trade wars for inflation and backs zoning changes for more rentals, mixed-use buildings and accessory dwelling units, portable mortgages, and FrontRunner service every 15 minutes including Sundays. On water he wants the Great Salt Lake restored to 4,200 feet with public tracking, cuts in use starting with the largest consumers, funding for water-saving technology, and buy-backs of water rights. He also wants limits on surveillance tools like Flock cameras, with probable cause and a warrant required. He answered Against on both Constitutional Amendment A and Amendment B. [1]

These are the candidate's own statements from the campaign website, not checked by The Utah Ledger. The issues page calls for full state funding of schools so districts need not keep raising property taxes, more housing supply including accessory dwelling units, ranked and approval voting, a top-four primary and independent redistricting, a warrant requirement for government access to license-plate reader data, limits on data center size ("about 50 acres per facility") and no special tax deals for them, and restoring the Great Salt Lake to 4,200 feet. The FAQ says Smith opposes Amendment B, which would raise the threshold for most ballot initiatives to 60 percent. No endorsements are listed. [2]
