Career and education

Jake Fitisemanu's career centers on public health and community wellness. His caucus biography describes education in social sciences and public health at Westminster University, leadership of health initiatives and health-clinic management. It also records service on President Obama's advisory commission concerning Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and two appointed terms on a Census Bureau advisory committee, connecting local health work with national public service. [3]

Public service and district

Fitisemanu began House service in January 2025 and represents District 30 in Salt Lake County. His caucus biography records two elections to the West Valley City Council before his state legislative career. The current roster identifies community health program management as his profession and lists a public-health master's degree. His municipal and professional health experience both contribute to the background he brings to his House responsibilities. [1] [3]

Documented legislative work

The 2026 sponsor table records proposals from Fitisemanu on traffic safety, traditional healing, Medicare supplements, residential notification, imitation firearms and child car-seat requirements. The listed measures ended as filed in the House. The range provides a documented view of subjects he pursued, particularly health and safety, while the recorded outcomes prevent describing those proposals as enacted programs or assuming that their introduced language became current Utah law. [2]

In the 2026 General Session, Jake Fitisemanu was chief sponsor of H.B. 83, Imitation Firearm Amendments. It would have made it an infraction for a minor who has already received a documented police warning to possess an altered toy, look-alike or imitation firearm that looks like a real one. It never reached a floor vote: a House committee returned it to the Rules Committee, and it was filed on March 6, 2026. [4]

In the 2026 General Session, Jake Fitisemanu was chief sponsor of H.B. 98, Residential Notification Amendments. It would have required regulated residential facilities to notify nearby owners and residents before opening and give neighbors a designated contact. It failed in the House, and it was filed on March 6, 2026. [5]

Committee and budget responsibilities

His current assignments include House Health and Human Services, House Political Subdivisions and Social Services Appropriations. He also serves on the Native American Legislative Liaison Committee and interim committees for health and economic development and workforce services. The portfolio combines health-program policy and funding with local-government questions and tribal relationships, extending his earlier community-health and municipal experience into statewide legislative review.
