Logan Canyon

The Logan River’s limestone canyon and the scenic byway that follows it from Logan toward Garden City and Bear Lake.

US-89 leaves Logan at 400 North and follows the Logan River up through the Bear River Range. The Logan Canyon Scenic Byway runs from Logan to Garden City on Bear Lake, and the Federal Highway Administration describes it passing dense forests, meadows and rock formations, with a strong show of color in autumn.

About 7.5 miles up, the Wind Cave trail climbs the north wall through Lodgepole Limestone to an exposed cavern and arch that the Utah Geological Survey says was formed by water, not wind. The cave developed underground and was exposed as the Logan River cut down and the canyon walls eroded. Beaver Mountain ski area sits off the byway near the top.
