Item II.1 · Presentation
Olympics update and 2034 announcement
Discussed
Chair Malena Stevens, Mayor Nann Worel and Jennifer Wesselhoff of the Chamber/Bureau reported on the Paris announcement of the 2034 Winter Games. Worel noted frustration over road and path closure communication. Next steps include a request for proposals for a 10-year action plan and partnerships among the city, county, Deer Valley, Park City Mountain and Utah Olympic Park. Summit County Council Vice Chair Tonja Hanson asked that 2002 Games workers be consulted, and Council Member Tana Toly asked for community meetings.
Item II.2 · Presentation
Regional park-and-ride study
Discussed
Summit County transportation staff presented survey results from over 1,100 respondents and three options: distributed, consolidated or hybrid lots. Available spaces were Kimball Junction 39, Jeremy Ranch 69, Ecker Hill 358 and Richardson Flat 742. Members differed on whether capacity is sufficient: Parigian said more spaces are needed, Ciraco said transit policy changes are needed, and County Council Member Roger Armstrong said transit alone is not the solution. Stevens asked staff to return with a joint proposal.
Item II.3 · Presentation
Short-term rentals study
Discussed
Representatives of the Park City Board of Realtors and AEG Policy Advisors presented a National Association of Realtors-funded study. Summit County has 22% nightly rentals, vacation homes make up 34%, and Park City nightly rental occupancy is 51%. The presenter said short-term rentals have less than a 1% effect on property prices. The study did not include Summit County or Park City.
