Continuation of policy discussions on creating a regional housing authority
Discussed
Staff cited current annual city and county housing costs of about $1.2 million and a potential authority budget of about $1.5 million, with each entity contributing $500,000. Toly, as chair of the housing authority committee, described a five-year setup and recommended reconvening in January. Rubell supported an authority only with no net increase in spending and preferred a taskforce first; Dickey felt an authority would be expensive and favored a shared service model; Doilney and Worel favored moving forward; Gerber favored a taskforce then a transition. A county council member summarized that the majority wanted to proceed with a taskforce as an intermediate step. The direction was not a final vote. The next joint meeting is January 12.
