Council discussion on capital facility needs

    Discussed

Members listed individual priorities; the averaged order was Alta Canyon Recreation Center, Public Works facility, Fire Station 31, a tie between Council Chambers and a Parks and Recreation building, then the All Abilities Playground. A majority expressed no interest in pursuing a general obligation bond in November 2022, after which the mayor described the administration's capital priorities. Questions on added annual revenue and a preferred funding method were postponed. Fire Chief Bruce Cline spoke about the need to rebuild Fire Station 31. For next steps members asked to decide whether to rebuild or remodel Alta Canyon, to adopt a timeline for other facilities, to examine Sprung structures and funding options such as a parks tax, bonding, sponsorships and corporate partnerships, and to involve the Alta Canyon advisory board.
