Utility installation exemptions text amendment (briefing)

    Discussed

Planners described new exemptions and an administrative approval process, with public notice, for new public utility structures, including in historic districts, where Historic Landmark Commission standards would still be considered. In a straw poll all Council Members present supported adding language that exempt government antennas must be critical infrastructure providing utility or public safety service, and footnotes keeping antennas out of the Eco-Industrial Buffer Area overlay. Council Member Wharton asked for a small group meeting on remaining questions.

    Utility installation exemptions text amendment

    Continued · 6-0

One speaker commented on public involvement for utility projects in public parks and suggested residents may offer lower-cost alternatives. Council Member Wharton asked that the ordinance state the exemptions do not apply to a utility structure in a park, and for more information on design standards; Council staff said they would draft language with Planning. The Council continued the hearing to a future meeting.
