Ogden council hears Downtown Alliance report showing $5.4 million in event impact

In a joint work session of the Ogden City Council and Redevelopment Agency, the Ogden Downtown Alliance reported a $5.4 million economic impact and record attendance at the Farmers Market and car show. Members also raised questions about Flock camera data sharing and the Utah Trails Network. A 6 p.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting and an open house followed; the work session minutes do not cover them.

Executive Director Reide Thompson reported $5.4 million in economic impact from events and programs, about 50,000 more visitors than the prior year, $42,000 in SNAP produce incentives, paid work for 428 artists and performers, and more than 2,400 volunteer hours. Farmers Market Ogden drew 230,000 attendees, the car show 28,000 and Harvest Moon over 35,000. The alliance has no membership dues or special assessment and relies on events, grants, sponsorships and donations. Council members asked about business owners' mixed views of 25th Street event days, dogs at the market, volunteer needs, event safety planning and a policy for gathering signatures at the market, which Thompson said needs legal guidance and a possible designated public zone. Chair Richard Hyer asked about a concert series; Thompson cited funding and staff limits.
