First Dam tank transmission line alignment (mayor's report)

    Discussed · Canyon Road

Mayor Daines read a letter saying Whitaker Construction was hired as general contractor and the north-side Canyon Road alignment was confirmed. The least expensive alternative would add about $2.4 million for pipe and installation, affect 90 more properties and could roughly double with right-of-way and utility costs; an additional $4.8 million would require at least a 2.5 percent water rate increase over the 20-year bond, and the council had already appropriated $20 million. The project would remove 17 ash trees and could plant over 200 new trees, and Canyon Road would keep its current width rather than the planned 80-foot collector width, with restoration scheduled for 2026. Council members Amy Anderson and Johnson acknowledged difficult tradeoffs; Chair Simmonds called the pipe a necessity and asked that the project move to budgeting. Council Member Mark Anderson disclosed a personal interest and refrained from comment. No formal motion; the mayor asked for a nod to proceed and a budget with a public hearing will follow.

    • Budget$20.0 million First Dam tank and lines (already appropriated)
    • Budget$2.40 million Additional cost of least expensive alternative (estimate)
