In the candidate's own words
The Tribune reports that Tucker Smith, a public school teacher, was the only Democrat to seek the Senate District 23 seat held by Republican Keith Grover, who has represented Utah County in the Senate since 2018. [1]
In the survey, Smith says the Legislature holds power at voters' expense and would work to reinstate the independent redistricting commission and campaign finance limits and to tax wealthy people rather than working-class families. Smith would fight for universal childcare and pre-K, aim to keep housing under 30 percent of a household's income by increasing the supply of ownable homes and building nonmarket affordable housing along transit corridors, and strengthen unions. Smith opposes public money for private school and homeschool vouchers and would seek $1 billion more a year for public education. Smith opposes both Amendment A and Amendment B. [1]
