Accounting and financial services

Kress Staheli grew up in Washington City, graduated from Pine View High School and earned an accounting degree from Southern Utah University. His official biography identifies more than twenty years working as an insurance and financial services agent with the same company. He also served eight years in the Utah Army National Guard, bringing both private-sector and military experience to elected office. [1]

Growth and financial priorities

Staheli’s mayoral biography identifies transparency and fairness in development decisions, careful budgeting and planning for future quality of life as priorities. He emphasizes listening to residents and understanding their concerns, and invites both newer and longtime residents to participate. The stated approach links the community’s history and identity with the practical demands of continued growth. [1]

Assignments beyond City Hall

His official assignments include the Dixie Metropolitan Planning Organization executive council and the Washington County Water Conservancy District board. Within the city, he participates in downtown economic development, celebrations and events, and administrative hiring work. These responsibilities connect transportation and water planning with local economic activity and the operation of municipal government in a rapidly changing part of southwestern Utah. [1]

The mayor’s voting role

Washington City’s published voting record explains that its mayor votes only to resolve a tie. Staheli’s responsibilities therefore extend beyond the number of recorded affirmative or negative votes attached to his name. The council’s ordinary voting determines most outcomes, while his other official assignments involve planning, coordination and representation. The distinction helps explain how his mayoral policy priorities relate to the collective decisions recorded by the governing body. [2]
