Background, as reported

KPCW reported in January 2026 that Celeste Johnson served eight years as mayor of Midway and spent her career in marketing and sales before moving into government. She said she wants more voices at the table in the Legislature, and named open space and Wasatch Back transportation among her concerns. [2]

In their own words: the Tribune questionnaire

In the Tribune questionnaire, Johnson wrote that trust is lost when decisions are made behind closed doors and public input is not respected. On housing, she opposed one-size-fits-all state mandates, supported requiring counties to submit a long-term housing plan to the state and backed removing the sales tax on groceries. On water, she supported requiring large industrial users to disclose projected water use before projects proceed, and said protecting the Great Salt Lake has to guide every water decision. She also named work on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. [1]

The candidate answered against on Constitutional Amendment A (publishing proposed amendments on state websites) and against on Amendment B (60 percent voter approval for citizen initiatives that raise taxes). [1]
