Commissioner, Utah Department of Transportation

Leading Utah's transportation department

Carlos Braceras is commissioner of the Utah Department of Transportation. UDOT's leadership page names three strategic goals: no crashes, injuries or fatalities; preserving infrastructure; and optimizing mobility. They describe what the agency is aiming for, not results credited to any one official. [1]

From regional management to commissioner

Governor Gary Herbert appointed Braceras commissioner on May 6, 2013. He had been UDOT's deputy director since May 2001, when he was director of its Region 3. Earlier he worked on the Legacy Parkway and I-15 North project, handling environmental documents, design-build contracts and construction. [1]

Education

Braceras earned bachelor's degrees in geology from the University of Vermont and civil engineering from the University of Utah, according to UDOT. [1]
