Lew Wheelwright celebrated his 80th birthday Friday by water skiing 80 miles on Lake Powell, FOX 13 News reported. [1]

The run took two hours and 27 minutes, starting at Halls Crossing Marina and ending just above Long Canyon after passing Cathedral Canyon. Wheelwright has marked his birthday for 12 years by skiing the number of miles of his age, but he missed last year because of bad weather. [1]

Wheelwright said the biggest challenge is fatigue and that he is usually good for about 40 miles. His farthest ever was 125 miles. Friend Gary Mead told FOX 13, 'Lew is a freak of nature.' [1]
