Richfield fire chief reports state approval of a $600,000 grant toward a $1.2 million fire truck

A state board has approved a $600,000 grant toward a new Richfield fire truck, Fire Chief Dustin Anderson told the City Council on Sept. 22, 2026. ^[3]

The truck will cost $1.2 million in total, with $300,000 each from the city and Sevier County, according to the council's June 23 minutes. ^[2]

The application

On Feb. 10, the council discussed capital priorities; the minutes list a fire truck among the top three short-term items, along with an underground water right purchase and a bridge replacement. ^[1]

The council held a public hearing June 23 on an application to the Permanent Community Impact Fund Board, known as the CIB, for a $600,000 grant with a $300,000 match from the city and a $300,000 match from the county. The minutes say the city's portion would come from money the fire department had already set aside and that the county agreed to match it. No vote was recorded on the item. ^[2]

The approval

At the Sept. 22 meeting, the chief reported on a CIB meeting held Sept. 3, and the minutes record that "The CIB approved the $600,000 grant." ^[3]

According to the minutes, the next step was a funding meeting on Oct. 1, and the truck is about three and a half years from completion. The chief said the city would pay upfront, which locks in the price, and would save some $80,000 by doing so. No vote was taken on the report. ^[3]
