Residents near Gould Wash in Hurricane are asking the city to clear and reinforce the spots where water escaped its banks before another round of storms reaches southern Utah this weekend. The Oct. 22 flood affected about 130 homes, many of which had also flooded in an Aug. 14 storm.

Lifelong resident Steve Isom said he had just finished repairs from August when water reached his home again within 10 to 15 minutes. He said he asked about the city's plan and got no answer, and that fixing the trouble spots within a few days would help restore his trust. Neighbor Lance Clifford said sediment from the first flood raised the bottom of the wash about two feet, making it easier to overflow.

Mayor Clark Fawcett declared a local emergency after the Oct. 22 flood. The city said bridges, culverts, roads and electrical boxes were damaged.
