BalletNext, Park City's resident dance company, will perform a gothic take on the ballet "Giselle" called "Beyond the Veil" on Oct. 20 in Salt Lake City and Oct. 28 in Park City, the Park Record reported. [1]
Artistic Director Michele Wiles, who dances the title role, said the music replaces Adolphe Adam's original score. She described the selections as "the Three Ms — Marilyn Manson, Madonna and Mozart," and said the show opens with Manson's version of "This Is Halloween" and closes with Michael Jackson's "Scream." [1]
"We got darker with this one," Wiles told the Park Record. She said costumes are goth and steampunk in style, and that the choreography mixes classical and contemporary dance. Matthew Helms dances Prince Albrecht and Bashaun Williams dances Hilarion. [1]
Wiles said the company hosts post-show dance parties in the theaters with a playlist that will include Prince. The production follows BalletNext's "Beyond the Swan" and its "Unwrapped" take on "The Nutcracker," she said. [1]
