Nine Mile Canyon
A 46-mile canyon of rock art panels, historic inscriptions and homesteads, still farmed and ranched, reached from Wellington near Price.
The BLM describes Nine Mile Canyon as 46 miles long, despite its name, with rock art, historic inscriptions and remains of prehistoric and historic life alongside the ranches and farms still working its flat canyon bottom. Pinyon, juniper and sagebrush top the walls.
Most visitors come from Wellington, south of Price, on Soldier Creek Road. Established stops include several marked rock art panels, a picnic area, restrooms and a historic homestead at Cottonwood Glen, trailheads and restrooms at Daddy Canyon, and trails to rock art and a Fremont village site in Cottonwood Canyon. A loop is possible by continuing through Gate Canyon to Myton.
Much of the canyon bottom is private land. The BLM asks visitors to respect it, which means sticking to the marked public stops. Do not touch or mark the panels.
